Mission
Statement
Saint
Linus School is committed to providing a quality Catholic
education to the children they serve. In collaboration with
parents, the faculty, staff and clergy minister together in
the spiritual, intellectual, social and physical development
of the students, empowering them to become faith-filled, responsible
and participating members of the church and society.
Philosophy
We
the faculty and staff of St. Linus School strive to promote
a faith community through which is formed an integrated, self-reliant
and compassionate people who come to know God in Jesus, in
human experience and in nature. We are committed to providing
a thorough doctrinal education of the teachings of the Catholic
Church. We seek to lead our students to a sense of responsibility
to the Church, to society, and to an awareness of social justice.
St.
Linus School is committed to the education of children in
partnership with parents who recognize that “for people
of faith, the wisdom and culture transmitted by the school
are enriched and put into perspective by the Gospel message
of Jesus.” (Growing Together). While the school functions
as a community, it also functions within a community. Parental
involvement and community support are necessary to the attainment
of our goals. “Community is at the heart of Christian
education not simply as a concept to be taught but as a reality
to be lived.” (To Teach As Jesus Did).
By
emphasizing the Christian dignity and spiritual uniqueness
of each child, we encourage the students to recognize and
embrace a plurality of cultures. We strive to awaken in them
global awareness and their responsibility to use their God
given talents in service to others. We foster respect for
the wonders of God’s creation and encourage responsible
attitudes in caring for the environment.
Through
the faith, dedication and example that we bring to our work,
we form a faith community in which “the Christian message,
worship and social concern are integrated in the total experience
of the students, their parents, and members of the faculty.”

History of Saint Linus School
On
November 15, 1961, the formation of St. Linus Parish was announced.
Ground breaking for the permanent church and school took place
on September 23, 1962, the feast of Saint Linus. Father Michael
J. McNulty was appointed the first pastor of St. Linus Parish
on November 15, 1961 and under his supervision, the new parish
experienced rapid growth and formation.
In
September 1963, the school under the guidance of the Sisters
of the Holy Faith opened its doors to its first 287 students.
Six classrooms were in operation the first school year. Thereafter,
additional classrooms were added annually until 16 classrooms
were in operation. The highest number of students enrolled
was 674 in the 1970-1971 school year.
A
downward enrollment trend began in the late 1980's. In September
1987, St. Linus School began decreasing the number of classrooms
and by 1990 became a nine classrooms school (K-8). As rooms
became available a prekindergarten, computer lab, science/math
room were opened. The enrollment has remained stable since
1990. At present there are 10 classrooms with a total enrollment
of 320 students.
The
faculty and staff of St. Linus School continue to provide
a strong academic program integrating Catholic teachings and
gospel values. Affirmed and supported within a faith-filled
and caring community the students continue to grow and excel
through responsible involvement in the academic, cultural
and civic concerns of daily life.
